SPARC's chief executive Peter Miskimmin says the New Zealand Olympic Committee's departing Secretary General Barry Maister leaves a lasting legacy for the NZOC and for sport in this country as a whole.
Maister has announced he is stepping down as NZOC Secretary General at the end of the year after10 years in the role to concentrate on his new position as a member of the International Olympic Committee.
Miskimmin says Maister led the NZOC into a new era of professionalism and effectiveness, helped it become more financially sound and forged closer links between national sport organisation and SPARC.
He says it's good Maister will stay on the NZOC Board and continue to make a direct contribution to sport in New Zealand.
