The Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has been ruled him out of this month's ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean after suffering a shoulder injury.
The 31-year-old has been advised to rest for up to four weeks, with the 26-year-old opener Murali Vijay replacing him in India's 15-man squad.
The explosive Sehwag had struggled for form in the Indian Premier League, although he played in all 14 of Delhi Daredevils' games in the competition.
Vijay has been in fine form for Chennai Super Kings, scoring 417 runs in all.
The blow is similar to the one India suffered before last summer's ICC World Twenty20 in England. Sehwag had sustained a shoulder injury during the 2009 IPL in South Africa, shortly before the World Twenty20 was due to begin.
He travelled with the squad to England, but was not able to play a game. India, winners of the inaugural tournament in 2007, were eliminated without winning a game in the second round two years later.
