Fox seals top three finish

6:33 am on 5 February 2018

The New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox has claimed a career best result on the European Tour - finishing in a tie for third at the Maybank Championship in Malaysia.

With three early rounds of matching 68's, Fox recorded a final round of six-under par, 66 to finish four shots behind the winner India's Shubhankar Sharma.

Fox was more than happy with his final round but says there was no way he going to catch Sharma, who shot a 10 under 62 to seal the win.

"Gave myself a bunch of chances and closed well but Shubhanker played some amazing golf out there and was pretty hard to catch....what was he - four back starting the day? To do that to win a golf tournament is seriously impressive," said Fox.

"It's the best I have played for a little while. I drove really solidly. The ball striking was there and I holed some putts....it was nice to put four rounds together.

Fox picks up $230 thousand for finishing third.

His next tournament is in Perth.

"It's one of my favourite golf courses. I played there as an amateur six or seven years ago and always enjoy going back and I love the matchplay format," said Fox.
