The coach of the New Zealand womens hockey team says the Black Sticks' wn over the world's second-ranked side Argentina in Hamilton shows how much they've improved since last season when the South Americans won all three Tests here.
Mark Hager says the 3-1 margin was a surprise with such a young team, but for much of the game they stuck to their match plan and were rewarded with three second half goals.
He says the key was defensive discipline, holding possession and taking chances, which New Zealand did and Argentina didn't.
The next two Tests are in Tauranga today and Saturday.
