Olympique Marseille ended their 17-year wait for a football trophy when they beat Girondins Bordeaux 3-1 in the French League Cup final at Stade de France in Paris.
Marseille, who had failed to lift any silverware since their 1993 Champions League triumph, defeated the Ligue 1 champions with goals in quick succession after the break by defender Souleymane Diawara and substitute midfielder Mathieu Valbuena.
Bordeaux defender Mathieu Chalme handed Marseille a third by deflecting a Valbuena free kick into his own net before defender Ludovic Sane headed a late consolation for the league leaders.
Bordeaux, trying to win the Cup for a record fourth time and hoping for a boost before visiting Olympique Lyon in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie this week, struggled in a tense, tactical affair and collapsed after the break.
