Despite only just completing his first four day match in six months, James Franklin is confident he's up to the rigours of test cricket if called upon for the second test against Australia starting in Hamilton tomorrow.

The Wellington all rounder was called into the squad after coach Mark Greatbatch viewed the Seddon Park pitch which he expects to suit the seam bowlers after recent damp weather.

Franklin scored a century and bowled 40 overs in his last match for Wellington and is confident he can bowl 20 overs a day in a test.

Coach Mark Greatbatch says there's likely to be a recall for batsman Mathew Sinclair if they decide to leave out Peter Ingram.

Franklin says he's happy to slot into whatever role the Black Caps want.

A ustralia lead the two test series one nil, with the second test starting in Hamilton tomorrow.
