Canterbury's beaten Wellington by five wickets in Rangiora to move into second with one round to go in cricket's Plunket Shield competition.
Wellington set a target of 306 and it looked as if it might be enough with the home side on 85 for four but 77 from Peter Fulton and an unbeaten 92 from Shannon Stewart got maximum points for Canterbury.
Earlier Otago took first inings points from the leaders Northern Districts in Whangarei while Central Districts lost an innings and 93 runs in Auckland, despite a battling 129 from the recalled Black Caps batman Mathew Sinclair.
Central needed an outright win to have any chance of winning the Shield.
