The New Zealand under-20 rugby side has started their world championship campaign with a 42-20 win over Scotland in Georgia.

The Baby Blacks responded to the disappointment of missing out on last year's semi-finals for the first time by scoring a six tries to three victory.

Tasman winger Tima Faingaanuku finished with a hat-trick for New Zealand, completing his treble in the final minutes of the contest thanks to a pinpoint cross-field kick, as his side finished with six tries.

Champions England beat Samoa 74-17, while Italy upset Ireland 22-21 and South Africa and France drew 23-all.

New Zealand's next game is against Italy at the weekend followed by Ireland.
