The New Zealand tennis team leads Sri Lanka 2-nil in the Davis Cup tie in Colombo after Rubin Statham and Dan King-Turner won their first up clashes.
The first singles rubber of the Asia/Oceania Group II Tie went down to the wire with the New Zealand number two Statham and Harshana Godamanna doing battle for nearly five hours.
In 33 degree heat, Statham won the first set 6-3, with Godamanna taking the second set by the same score.
Statham won the thir 6-4 before Godamanna came back to take the next set and square the match at two sets all before Statham won fifth 6-4.
New Zealand's number one Dan King-Turner then beat Sri Lanka's number two Rajeev Rajapakse with relative ease claiming the match 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-2.
