Strong winds have forced an early end to the second day of sailing in the Auckland Match Racing Regatta on Waitemata Harbour.

With winds gusting over 25 knots and big windshifts only two rounds were completed.

Britain's triple Olympic gold medallist Ben Ainslie strengthened his position at the top of the leaderboard, winning both his matches, including one against New Zealand America's Cup veteran Chris Dickson.

Ainslie's won eight of his ten races.

There's a three way tie for second with Dean Barker of Team New Zealand, world match race champion Adam Minoprio and Polish sailor Karol Jablonski each having won six.

Racing is scheduled to resume tomorrow.
