The New Zealand skeleton racer Ben Sandford says his 11th place at the Winter Olympics in Canada may be the team's best performance so far but it didn't meet all his expectations.
Sandford finished 10th in Italy four years ago but slow starts cost him any chance of bettering that , although in each of his runs he improved from anywhere between 20th and 23rd in the field.
His four runs rocketed him around the Whistler Sliding Centre in 3:32.59, 2.86 seconds slower than eventual winner Jon Montgomery of Canada whileToinette Stoddard finished 14th in the women's race.
Cross-country skier Ben Koons will make his Olympic debut in the 30km pursuit today and short-track speed skater Blake Skjellerup is contesting the 1000 metres quarter-final.
