The Parramatta Eels have denied widespread reports that Kiwis playmaker Kieran Foran has quit the Nationa Rugby League club.

The former Manly star has been battling injury and personal issues.

A number of Australian media reported this morning that Foran had walked out on his $5 million contract with the club to take an indefinite break from rugby league.

However the Eels said in a statement they had no request from Foran to leave the club.

"The Parramatta Eels have not received a request from Kieran Foran's management regarding a release from his contract," the statement read.

"Kieran's welfare is the club's primary concern and the Eels will continue to offer him all the resources available to aid in his recovery.

"The club will be making no further comment on the matter."

News Corp had reported that Foran had quit the club and taken an indefinite break from the NRL to deal with his personal problems.

The 25-year-old had been granted leave in April to enter rehabilitation for depression following the breakdown of his relationship with his long-term partner and mother of his two children.

Recently, Foran was stripped of the Eels captaincy in June for failing to fulfil his club duties with regards to injury rehabilitation.

He had been ruled out for the remainder of the NRL season with a serious shoulder injury and has had surgery, with the club fining Foran $5,000 for neglecting his obligations and missing several scheduled rehab sessions.

It has been a turbulent year for both Foran - who joined the club from Manly - and the Eels, who have their 12-point salary-cap penalty due in coming weeks.
