Stormy weather could postpone penultimate Phoenix fixture

12:16 pm on 7 February 2010

The Wellington Phoenix have already made the A-League football playoffs without kicking a ball this weekend - and they may not get to either, with inclement weather threatening tonight's penultimate regular season fixture at Gold Coast United.

The Phoenix are assured a top-six finish thanks to earlier results but it's been bucketing down on the Gold Coast.

Heavy rain last night caused the postponement of the match between Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle.

A 14-year-old boy has been killed in Queensland with a storm bringing torrential rain causing flash flooding across the Australian state.

Officials will leave any decision on postponing the Gold Coast-Phoenix game up until the last minute.
