Chelsea's transfer ban lifted

11:39 am on 5 February 2010

The transfer ban imposed on English football club Chelsea has been lifted following an agreement with France's Racing Lens over the signing of French forward Gael Kakuta.

Last September Chelsea was found guilty of inducing Kakuta to break his contract with Lens in 2007 and subsequently barred by FIFA from signing new players until 2011.

Chelsea appealed and were able to sign new players in January's transfer window pending a final decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport .

The CAS says the two clubs and Kakuta have recognised that the contract between the player and Racing Lens was not valid, so Chelsea cannot be liable for inducing a breach of contract.

The sanctions have now been lifted and Chelsea has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
