Breakers win big

The New Zealand Breakers' run towards the Australian National Basketball League play-offs has continued with a resounding 88-60 victory over the Wollongong Hawks on the North Shore.

After losing their last five games to the Hawks, the Breakers came out firing and led throughout with captain Kirk Penney again leading the way with 23 points, while fellow guard CJ Bruton made 19.

Tony Ronaldson became the eighth New Zealand Breaker to reach 1000 points for the club early in the second half when he nailed two free-throws.

The game was Ronaldson's 86th for the Breakers and his 662nd game in the league.

The Breakers coach Andrej Lemanis says the team's poor results against the Hawks this season has been a mental thing, which the side has now moved past.

The Breakers are still fifth in the standings and with just two games remaining in the regular season they'll probably need to win both to secure a place in the semi-finals.
