The former South African cricket coach Mickey Arthur says he resigned from the position after a disagreement with the Cricket South Africa board over the team's future.

Arthur says he had a clear vision of how he wanted to go forward with the South African team, which was not shared by the CSA board.

He says the board also wanted structural changes, which he didn't agree with.

The CSA chief executive Gerald Majola says the board was unhappy with the Proteas' results in 2009, which included losing a home series to Australia and being eliminated in the group stages of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Arthur has been in charge of the South Africa cricket team since May 2005 and his resignation has forced the Proteas to install Corrie van Zyl as interim coach for the upcoming two-test and three one-day international tour of India.
