Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez scored twice against his former club Manchester United to guide his team to a 2-1 home victory in the first leg of their English football League Cup semi-final.
The defending Cup champions Manchester United went ahead 1-nil in the 17th minute after City's goalkeeper Shay Given blocked a Wayne Rooney shot, leaving Ryan Giggs free to tap in an easy goal.
But Tevez, who joined Manchester City last year, converted a penalty just before half-time to level the scores, and then put his side in front with a header in the 65th minute after being left unmarked in the goal box.
The semi-final will be decided in the second leg at Old Trafford next week, with the winners to meet Aston Villa or Blackburn Rovers in the final at Wembley Stadium late February.
This is the first League Cup semi-final between the two Manchester clubs since 1969.
