Rain delays Erakovic match in Melbourne

8:34 am on 19 January 2010

The rainy weather that plagued the opening day of the Australian tennis Open appears to have forced the postponement of New Zealand player Marina Erakovic's first round match against China's Li Na.

Little play was possible outside the covered arenas as all the top seeds including Spain's champion Rafael Nadal made it through the first day in Melbourne, the biggest shock the departure of the 2008 champion, Maria Sharapova of Russia.

Belgium's former world number one Justine Henin also won through to set up a mouth-watering second-round clash with fifth seeded Russian Elena Dementieva.

Roger Federer and Serena Williams both take to centre court at Rod Laver Arena today.
