New Zealand's Nick Voke is tied for second after the first day of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Championship in Hong Kong.
Voke still had a hole to play when play was suspended due to darkness.
He was six under par, two shots behind a Chinese player.
Ryan Chisnall is three under par.
It was announced on Thursday that the event will be played at the Royal Wellington club in Wellington in 2017.
The tournament winner automatically qualifies for the first major of the year, the Masters, as well as the final qualifying stage for another major, the Open Championship.
