Central Districts coach fined for ball tampering remarks

The Central Districts cricket coach Dermot Reeve has been fined $750 for making comments alleging England international and Auckland player Ravi Bopara tampered with the ball in a recent domestic match.

New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive Justin Vaughan initiated a Code of Conduct hearing to determine whether the comments made by Reeve, were prejudicial to the game or brought it into disrepute.

In a hearing this week, Commissioner Roger Mori ruled that Reeve's comments were a breach of the Code of Conduct.

Mori says while the comments were not malicious and were motivated by a desire to prevent ball-tampering in future matches, making them publicly was inappropriate.
