Defending champions Peter Belliss, Kevin Robinson, Steva Posa and Justin Goodwin will face a stern test in today's quarter finals of the mens pairs at the national bowls championships in Wellington.
The quartet will take on Andrew Kelly and his team of Lance Pascoe, Nick Buttar and Dave Good.
Kelly's foursome put paid to Gary Lawson's team ,defeating them 18-13 in the second round of post section and went on to beat the Invercargill team skipped by Paul McKinell 18-6 to secure a spot in the last eight.
Auckland young guns Gregory Ruaporo, Scott Cottrell, Sione Manuolevao and Ciaran MacElvanna have also secured a quarter final berth after defeating the recently high performing Jimmy Pugh and his Stoke team 19-11.
In today's women semi finals United's Barbara McGregor will play Johnsonville's Paula Meredith who defeated Lower Hutt's Shirley Wilson convincingly 24-16 in the quarter final.
The other semi final will see Beckenham's Verna Veint, New Zealand representative Adele Greenfield, Maureen Doherty and Margaret Bruhns take on the formidable combination of Gale Fache, Nellie Hewson, Faye George and Loralie Hawkes.
