Cairns "devastated" and may sue

10:26 pm on 6 January 2010

A spokesperson for cricketer Chris Cairns says the former Black Cap is devastated that he's been linked to allegations of match-fixing.

Cairns' representative Andrew Fitch-Holland says the Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi made the allegations when removing Cairns from the list of players being considered for this year's IPL.

Fitch-Holland says the former Test and one-day star emphatically denies any involvement in match fixing and says Cairns has never been investigated for any such offence.

He says the unsubstantiated claims have had an immediate and highly damaging effect on Cairns reputation.

Fitch-Holland says Cairns is now seeking legal advice and may sue Modi and Cricinfo, the website which reported the match-fixing claims, to protect his standing within the game.
