NZ cyclist Sergent has surgery

The New Zealand cyclist Jesse Sergent has had surgery on the collarbone he broke in a crash yesterday.

Sergent was knocked off his bike by a neutral support vehicle during the Tour of Flanders.

Another rider was also brought down by the same car in a separate accident.

Sergent's incident was by far the most dramatic... it happened while he was in a six-man breakaway with just over 100 kilometres remaining of the race.

Sergent's Trek Factory team has tweeted that the New Zealander has had surgery which went well.

He's likely to be out of action for at least a month.
