A goal off the bench by new Wellington Phoenix signing Joel Griffiths and another by striker Nathan Burns has led the side to a 2-0 win over Adelaide United.
It was a scrappy encounter at the Hutt Recreation Ground with clear chances hard to come by.
Griffiths goal to give the Phoenix the lead in the 79th minute was just as scrappy as the game as he tapped home a low cross in a goalmouth scramble.
Burns's goal came three minutes later as he headed in a Roly Bonevacia free-kick uncontested leaving Adelaide keeper Eugene Galekovic stranded.
The win lifts the home side above Adelaide in the A-League standings, and temporarily into first.
