Archibald won the bronze medal in the men's 1000 metres time trial, to match the bronze he won at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

He also broke the New Zealand record, finishing with a time of 1:00.470.

Frenchman Francois Pervis clocked 1:00.207 to win the gold medal, his third title in three days at the championships.

Riding seventh out of the 19 riders in the final, Archibald set the fastest time before being pipped by the last two riders on the velodrome, with Germany's Joachim Eilers taking silver before Pervis won gold.

Fellow New Zealander Simon van Velthooven clocked 1:01.157 to finish ninth.
