In his 38th tilt at the Blue Water Classic, owner and skipper Roger Hickman won his third handicap honours and got to share it with 13 others on board including his brother and sister.

After being presented with the Tattersall's Cup Hickman admitted the final 40 nautical miles were the toughest in his experience.

When Wild Rose reached Tasmania's mid-east coast early on Monday potential disaster struck in the form of a broken steering cable but the crew were able to make emergency repairs in wild weather.

The boat was formerly named Wild Oats and owned by Bob Oatley, whose supermaxi Wild Oats XI took line honours on Sunday.
