The Wellington cricketers have qualified for next year's Champions League T20 tournament after beating Auckland in the final of the domestic competition in Hamilton.
Wellington's maiden T20 title was set up when they batted first and opener Michael Pollard made 76 off 56 balls in their total of 186 for six.
Chasing 187, Auckland made a promising start, collapsed, then mounted a come back to fall just short on 180 for nine at Seddon Park.
Wellington's first goal at next year's Champions League will be to try to emulate Otago and Northern Districts. Both sides advanced to the main draw at the past two editions of the annual tournament.
