The first five-eighth Dan Carter could make his first start for the All Blacks in a year in the test against Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday morning.

Carter made his first appearance of the year off the bench in the match against the United States in Chicago, but was not included the playing squad for the win over England at Twickenham.

The assistant coach, Ian Foster, says the 101-Test veteran's likely to be involved, but didn't reveal whether he would start.

He says they're keen for Carter to get some game time on the tour and they were pleased with what they got out of him against the US, but says Scotland will be another step up.

Foster says after so much time out it will take him a while to familiarise himself with the systems again.
