Holdzkom gets limited run

The New Zealand baseball international John Holdzkom pitched one innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they were beaten in their wildcard game in the Major League Baseball play-offs.

The Pirates were thrashed 8-0 by the San Francisco Giants in the one-off game.

Holdzkom gave up one run in the 8th innings.

The Giants now move on to play Washington in the next round.

Holdzkom pitched nine innings in the last month for the Pirates after being picked up late in the season from the minor leagues.

The win sends the Giants into the best-of-five Natioanl League Divisional Series against the top-seeded NL East champion Washington Nationals starting on Friday.

NL West winners the Los Angeles Dodgers host the NL Central champion St. Louis Cardinals in the other divisional series.
