Three match suspension for Phoenix defender

6:14 am on 8 December 2009

The Wellington Phoenix defender Ben Sigmund has been suspended for three matches following an off the ball incident in last Friday's drawn game against Melbourne.

Televison replays showed Sigmund punching an opposition player after a corner had been taken when the player wasn't challenging for the ball in the 36th minute of the match.

Sigmund and the Phoenix have until 2 o'clock this afternoon to make a decision about appealing or accepting the suspension.
