Walsh beats top field in Zagreb

The Canterbury shot-putter Tom Walsh has beaten a strong field at the a World Challenge Meeting in Zagreb, Croatia.

Walsh had a best throw of 20.69 metres to finish ahead of double Olympic champion Tomasz Majewski of Poland and former World Champion Reese Hoffa of the United States.

His season best is 21.24 metres which he threw in qualifying at the Commonwealth Games in July.

The 22-year-old Walsh will end his northern season competing for the Asia Pacific team at the Continental Cup in Marrakech later this month.

The Zagreb event was held in the town square.

It's been a busy time for Walsh since winning the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

He finished third in Berlin on Monday and was sixth in the final Diamond League meeting in Zurich last week.
