The Black Caps are without injured fast bowler Shane Bond, with Darryl Tuffey recalled to the side after a five year test absence.

Vettori's carrying a shoulder injury, pace bowler Iain O'Brien's recovering from a dislocated finger while allrounder Grant Elliot, who bowled only a couple of overs in the first test in Dunedin has tendonitis in a knee.
