Ogilvy breaks three year slump

The 2006 US golf Open champion Geoff Ogilvy broke out of a slump with a convincing victory at the $3 million Barracuda Championship in Reno, Nevada this morning.

The Australian finished on 21-under-par for 49 points in the PGA TOUR's only modified stableford tournament.

The American Justin Hicks claimed second place on 44 points, with compatriots Jonathan Byrd and John Huh equal third on 37.

It was Ogilvy's eighth PGA Tour victory and his first since January 2010 and also earned him a late invitation to next week's PGA Championship.

The win puts an end to an indifferent three years where since 2012, including this win, he has recorded just three top-10 finishes.

It also secures his status on the PGA TOUR through the 2015-2016 season.
