Tiger Woods withdraws from WGC

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational midway through the final round with a back injury, putting his place at next week's PGA Championship in jeopardy.

Woods winced in pain following his tee shot on the ninth hole on Sunday and immediately pulled the plug at three-over on his round and four-over for the tournament.

The 38-year-old took three months off earlier in the year after back surgery and is now in serious doubt to play at Valhalla in Louisville next week for the PGA Championship, the venue from where he claimed the Wanamaker Trophy in 2000.

When asked if he would be able to play at Valhalla, Woods could only offer an "I don't know", as he was whisked away from the course.
