Black Ferns open World Cup

2:21 pm on 1 August 2014

The Women's Rugby World Cup gets underway tonight with holders New Zealand taking on Kazakhstan in France.

The Black Ferns have won the last four tournaments and are favourites to lift the trophy again at the final in Paris.

England, who have lost the last three finals, play Pool A rivals Samoa tonight.

The New Zealand coach Brian Evans has armed his team and it includes three players playing in their fourth World Cup campaign - captain Fiao'o Fa'amausili, halfback Emma Jensen and loose forward Casey Robertson.

Evans says the team has had a good week heading into the start of the tournament.

He says they don't know a lot about Kazakhstan but they played in the last World Cup and they know that they are big and fit and have to be prepared for teams that bring something extra when they play against the black jersey.

Kick-off is at 11pm tonight, New Zealand time.
