The former New Zealand Warriors coach Matt Elliott will coach the United States rugby league team in their Test match against Samoa in Hawaii this weekend.
Elliott was axed as coach of the Warriors in April after an indifferent start to the National Rugby League season.
The US team features 10 players who featured in last year's World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals.
