UEFA keeps Russia and Ukraine apart

4:18 pm on 18 July 2014

European football's governing body has decided Russian and Ukrainian clubs cannot be drawn against each other in a UEFA competition in the coming season.

The decision has been taken after months of tension between the two countries following Russia's annexation of Crimea and civil unrest in the Russian-speaking east of Ukraine.

It's also been decided not to allocate any UEFA matches to Israel due to the "current security situation", meaning Israeli clubs must find alternative venues outside of the country for their home legs in the coming Champions League and Europa League.
