French surfer suspended

French surfer Jeremy Flores has been fined and suspended until almost the end of next month for angrily confronting officials after a close loss at a World Championship Tour event in South Africa.

Flores, who's ranked 28th in the world, lost his second-round heat to Hawaiian Sebastian Zeitz by a narrow margin and let rip about the standard of judging.

He was fined around $7,000 and banned from the next event in Tahiti for unsportsmanlike conduct, and will also miss the second-tier US Open of Surfing in California.
