Nonu left the franchise after the 2011 season and played for the Highlanders and Blues.

However with coach Mark Hammett leaving the Hurricanes, Nonu has decided to return home.

The 32-year-old earned 110 caps for the Hurricanes between 2003 and 2011.

Nonu says he's thankful to the Blues for the support they have shown him, but he's also grateful to be coming back to the Hurricanes, he's very happy to be heading home to the family again and is looking forward to the challenge ahead in 2015.

Incoming Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd says the skill set Nonu will bring to the Hurricanes will greatly complement the players already on the roster.

Boyd says he coached Nonu for the first time back in the early 2000s in the Wellington B team, so they have a long history together as a player and coach.
