Woods fresh after back surgery

Tiger Woods's back operation in March robbed the former world number one of a quarter of the golf season but it's given him a fresh outlook on his career.

The 14-times major champion makes his second competitive appearance in four months at this week's British Open, and Woods is just happy to be back at the venue of his memorable 2006 victory at Royal Liverpool.

Woods missed the cut on return to the PGA Tour in Maryland last month but the 38-year-old is delighted just to be pain-free these days.

The dual US Open champion and long-time commentator Curtis Strange said earlier this month Woods would have to limit his ambitions this week at Hoylake because of his minimal playing time since surgery.

But the game's great drawcard says he's proved in the past how he can triumph in the face of adversity.
