Germany and France end African hopes

11:36 am on 2 July 2014

There are no longer any African teams in the football World Cup after Nigeria and Algeria were knocked out by France and Germany.

France needed late goals to see off African champions Nigeria 2-0 and Germany only gained their 2-1 win over Algeria in extra time.

Meanwhile, the Cameron football federation says it's investigating claims of match-fixing at the World Cup, especially their game against Croatia.

Cameroon lost all three of its group matches, including a 4-0 loss to Croatia.

And the suspended Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has issued a statement apologising for his biting of the Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Suarez vows it'll never happen again.
