No Gayle in West Indies T20 squad to play New Zealand

8:17 am on 30 June 2014

The West Indies star batsman Chris Gayle has been rested from the tour-ending Twenty20 cricket internationals against the Black Caps in Dominica.

Gayle's name was missing from the Windies 13-man squad named today, as was all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who remains unavailable due to a shoulder injury.

Enigmatic spinner Sunil Narine is back in the side after being dropped for the three-test series due to his late arrival from the Indian Premier League.

T20 specialist Kieron Pollard returns to the team for the first time since last July after recovering from a knee injury.

Bowling all-rounder Christopher Barnwell and batsman Darren Bravo are the new names in the squad.

Three players are missing from the World T20 in March, allrounder Marlon Samuels, fast bowler Ravi Rampaul and opener Johnson Charles.

All-rounder Darren Sammy, dropped as test skipper earlier this year, retains the T20 captaincy.

The two T20 matches are on Sunday and Monday, starting at 6am (NZ time).

New Zealand's squad is yet to be announced, with a small contingent of short form specialists expected to join the test lineup.
