Locke leaves Warriors on early release

The Warriors Kevin Locke has finally been granted an early release from his contract to join the English Super League side Salford immediately.

Locke revealed that the Auckland club had agreed to let him leave early, Tweeting, "It's official I'm released from the club wea (sic) it all began for me. Just want to thank the @NZWarriors for everything they have done for me."

The 25-year-old was due to join Salford on a three-year deal starting next season anyway, after high profile signing Sam Tomkins usurped him as the Warriors' first-choice fullback.

Salford have reportedly sought immigration lawyers in an attempt to rush through the paper work for Locke's visa.

The Warriors initially baulked on releasing Locke early, but it's understood they had a change in heart following a falling out between the fullback and coach Andrew McFadden.

Locke played 89 matches for the Warriors, scoring 26 tries.
