Sri Lanka on top at Headingly

7:27 am on 24 June 2014

The Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews and paceman Dhammika Prasad have pushed their side to the brink of victory after 4 days of the second and final cricket Test against England at Headingly in Leeds.

Set 350 to win, England slumped to 57 for five at stumps.

Mathews stroked a magnificent 160 to help Sri Lanka power their way to a second-innings total of 457 after resuming on 214 for four.

Prasad then produced a fiery spell of fast bowling to rip the heart out of England's batting by removing skipper Alastair Cook (16) and Gary Ballance (duck), in consecutive balls, Sam Robson (24) and Ian Bell (eight).

Nightwatchman Liam Plunkett fell to Rangana Herath for a duck.

Joe Root is unbeaten on 6.

The first test at Lord's ended in a draw.
