Glasgow-bound Henderson grabs stage win in Netherlands

6:55 am on 22 June 2014

The New Zealand cyclist Greg Henderson built on his recent outstanding form to solo to victory in stage two of the Ster ZLM Toer in the Netherlands.

Henderson, who will be a key component in New Zealand's road race team at next month's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, sprinted clear of Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Sharp) and his Lotto-Belisol teammate Andrew Geipel.

The New Zealand veteran, rated one of the best lead-out riders in the business, was working to set-up Greipel for the sprint finish before the sprint star told Henderson to go for it himself.

Henderson and fellow World Tour riders Jack Bauer and Jesse Sergent will lead the New Zealand team in the road race at Glasgow, after fellow professional George Bennett informed BikeNZ that he has been forced to withdraw as he is required to ride in the Tour of Poland which starts on the same day as the road race.
