Life has gone into overdrive for the New Zealand golfer Steven Alker who has emerged from a lean period in one crazy week to qualify for the US Open and win his fourth title on the Web.com tour - his first title this year.

Alker jumped 90 places up the secondary US Tour's money list to No.12 after winning the Cleveland Open in a PGA Tour record 11-hole playoff, and the 42-year-old was immediately on the road to North Carolina for the US Open at Pinehurst.

Alker tied for 45th at last year's US Open and his playing partners for the first two rounds at Pinehurst are the American Bobby Gates, the 2010 NZ Open champion, and South African Garth Mulroy.
