6:41 pm on 3 November 2009

The Waimate rider Heath Blackgrove retains the overall leader's yellow jersey after the 165 kilometre third stage of cycling's Tour of Southland.

Logan Hutchings of Papamoa won the 165 kilometre stage in 3hrs 49 minutes 57 seconds, out-sprinting Christchurch's Paul Odlin and Rotorua's Wade Mangham in Gore.

Hutchings rides for the same team as the three time defending champion Hayden Roulston, who pulled out injured yesterday after a crash.

And another member of Roulston's team, Marc Ryan, is well placed at third overall behind Blackgrove and Nelson's Jack Bauer.

There are now 106 riders after 11 were injured in yesterday's crashes and another eight didn't start or didn't finish stage three.

Stage four tomorrow morning is from Invercargill to Tuatapere with stage five in the afternoon from Tuatapere to Winton.
