The West Indies cricket coach Ottis Gibson is hopeful Chris Gayle will be fit for the first Test against New Zealand starting in Kingston on Monday.

Gayle has been bothered with a back complaint for a few months and recently went to Germany for treatment.

The opening batsman is currently resting but has told Gibson that he should be able to take a full part in cricket in a couple of days.

Gibson says they feel they have enough time to get him onto the field.

Apart from Gayle, the squad for the first Test also has fit-again pacers Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach and spinner Sulieman Benn.
