The South Africa batsman Hashim Amla says he's glad and humbled by his appointment as test cricket captain.
he replaces Graeme Smith who's retired after leading the Proteas for a decade.
Amla headed off fellow captaincy contenders AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis.
Amla, who's 31, is the first non-white player to captain the side, says he'll give his heart to the role as the Proteas try to rebuild after the departure of Smith and legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis.
He says over the years he's just focused on his batting to become the best possible, but now he feels it's time to contribute to the team environment, and he's really humbled.
Amla says his focus is on putting together a winning combination that can return South Africa to the top of the Test rankings.
His first assignment will be to a two-Test series in Sri Lanka next month.
