The former world golf number one Rory McIlroy ended a tumultuous week with a six-under-par 66 in the final round to score a fairytale victory in the British PGA Championship at Wentworth near London.
The Northern Irishman, who broke up with his tennis-playing fiancee Caroline Wozniacki a few days earlier, posted a final round of 66 to win his first title of the year by one stroke from Ireland's Shane Lowry, with the first round leader Thomas Bjorn and Luke Donald sharing third place.
Bjorn had teed off in the final round with a 5-stroke lead.
